Thousands Celebrated Abkhazia's Independence Day

The Second Ayaayra Festival (Ayaayra Amsh) celebrating the independence of Abkhazia was held in Akbalik, Turkey, on September 30, 2012. The festival was organized by Kaffed's Abkhazia Working Group, and Sakarya, Kocaeli, Hendek and Duzce Caucasian Cultural Associations. Thousands of people attended the festival to express their solidarity with the Republic of Abkhazia.

The festival was attended by Mustafa Buyuk (Governor of Sakarya), Abdullatif Sener (former Minister of State), representatives of the municipalities of Sakarya, Akyazi and Hendek, Altinok Oz (Mayor of  Istanbul/Kartal), Semsi Bayraktar (President of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Agriculture), Vacit Kadioglu (President of the Federation of the Caucasian Associations), guests from Abkhazia, and representatives of political parties, civil society organizations and media. The festival program included horse races, performances by renowned singer Gulcal Altan and groups Azar and Folkethnica, and folk dances by Kocaeli and Sakarya Associations' folk dance groups. The documentary "The songs that led us to the victory" on the struggle, sacrifice, and suffering of the Abkhazian people has attracted wide attention.
