Thousands Commemorate May 21

The Circassian Genocide and Exile Commemoration Ceremony organized by the Federation of the Caucasian Associations in Turkey (Kaffed) was held on May 14, 2016, in Karaagac and Babali villages of Kefken in Turkey.

The first ceremony was held at the Exile Memorial in the Karaagac Cementry where thousands of the Circassians lost their lives in the first years of settlement. After the speech made by the president of Kaffed, Yasar Aslankaya, the participants praied for their ancestors.

The second part of the ceremony was held at the Babali Coast where the first settlers found refuge in the caves. Thousands of people formed a march from the Babali Center Mosque to the coastal area. The thamadas and the presidents of member associations laid flowers to the coast. The ceremony continued with laments in Abkhazian, Adygean, Ossetian and Chechen languages. The Nart Fire and the Torch March were an evidence that the Circassian peoples will never forget what happenned in 1864. The video message of the president of the Abkhazian Republic, Raul Hacimba, was also shown during the ceremony.
